what to expect on your first experience with us at yahra, whether it be a class or a treatment.
which class is most suitable for a beginner? we have a number of classes suitable for beginners which are named on the timetable. others may be suitable for all levels in which case the teacher will provide options for each pose in class. if you are unsure which class will be most suited to you, please speak to a member of the team at reception, or contact us beforehand.
i'm not flexible enough for yoga! will i benefit? we all started as beginners and flexibility is not a requirement to practice yoga! yoga is all about the journey, and goes so much deeper than what the 'pose' looks like from the outside. yoga has many benefits such as improved focus and concentration, posture, breathing, sleep, mobility, strength, confidence, and stress relief as well as calming the mind, and helping cultivate an awareness of gratitude and presence. on top of all that, you may even just find a group of like minded yogi friends!
what should i wear to class? we do not have a dress code - just wear something comfortable that will allow you to move and stretch! our studio is a 'no shoe' zone, therefore please leave shoes downstairs or in the lockers provided and be barefoot to class. In meditation or yin yoga you may wish to wear socks. we advise wearing minimal jewellery.
do i need to bring anything with me? we provide mats, blocks and straps in our studio for you, but of course if you would like to bring your own mat along, do! for hot classes, we advise that you bring a towel to cover your mat during practice.
should you need to rent a towel for £2, please ask a member of staff.
changing facilities, showers, hair dryers and lockers are all provided on site. we also suggest bringing a reusable water bottle along with you which we will happily top up for you. we also sell cold mineral water and coconut water should you forget.
how do i book a class/ treatment? you can book classes online, over the phone, by email or through the mindbody app. just download mindbody from the app store on your phone and search for yahra. from here you can save the studio into your favourites so that you can easily locate our timetable and book on quickly.
how long before class/ treatment should I arrive? we recommend for your first class or treatment, you arrive a minimum of 15 minutes before so that you have time to fill out a new client consultation form. if you have any injuries, please always tell your teacher at the start of class. for treatments, your therapist can discuss any medical issues before the treatment begins.
classes and treatments start as promptly as possible therefore after your first time, please arrive at least 10 minutes before its due to start. this allows you to head to your mat at your own pace and begin to switch off . we welcome you to chill out before and after class in our downstairs space should you wish. enjoy a drink, read, or chat with a new yogi friend! if you are having a treatment, why not cosy up in our relaxation space with a cup of herbal tea before and after to truly unwind. what if i am late? as we want everyone who comes to class to enjoy the full experience, once the class begins and the door is closed, we do not wish to disturb the rest of the class therefore you may be turned away if late. What is hot yoga? these designated classes are heated to 40 degree heat in our specially designed hot yoga studio. practicing yoga in a heated environment has many benefits including; flushing toxins from the body through sweating, improving flexibility, builds strength and stamina, improves sleep, improves the nervous system, and burns fat as well as many more.
i have never tried hot yoga before? if you are new to hot yoga and are not sure if you will like it, why not try a warm class first? the temperature set for warm yoga is 30 degrees as opposed to 40 degrees in hot classes.
once you feel ready to try a hot class, it is very important that you come hydrated and bring water with you, or pick up a coconut water from reception which contains natural electrolytes over the heavily advertised sugary 'sports' alternatives. it is advised not to come to practice on a full stomach, but do make sure you have had something that will give you enough energy for class.
if for any reason you feel unwell during class, please come down into childs pose, lie or sit on your mat comfortably, sip some water and make your teacher aware. Please do not rush to leave the room due to the sudden drop in temperature and for your own safety so that you are not alone. Cancellation Policy classes and treatments must be cancelled within 24 hours to avoid a cancellation fee.
